Sasuke Uchiha: Samurai Shogun

Description

I found this really awesome picture of Sasuke off another Japanese website. I recognize the art style as of of my favorite doujinshi groups, but the name escapes me at the moment.

I don't remember how long it took me to color this in. It was between 2 and four hours.

Going by the official guide book, Kishimoto stated Sasuke's hair was blue-black. I did a layer in screen to give it that effect.

I used several layers on this object in this picture. One for skin, one for skin shading and another for skin shadowing.

One for the hakama, one for the shading and one for shadows. Then an additional two layers for contours and creases. Same goes for the kimono, tabi socks and wooden sandals.

I used a layer of screen and one of multiply to make the Uchiha symbol stand out.

I matched the sword wrappings to the Uchiha symbol, by making them red. I made the sword sheaths black to be like the outline of the Uchiha symbol, separating the red from the white.

I made Sasuke's kimono a dark blue color with white lining, because he looks really good in blue. I also thought it was nostalgic of his first attire in Team 7.

The hakama didn't look right being white and black seemed too dark, so I went with the in between color of grey - it's neutral, mostly like his moods and occasional outlook on life.

I made the hilt of the sword a combination of white and black, to closely resemble that of the yin yang sign.

In the end, I kept the background starch white, so the black painted Japanese kanji would stand out more predominantly.

Sasuke Uchiha is property of Masashi Kishimoto and all rights belong to him.
